Iced in.....

We were all at home today, and it was nice! Both Justin and I were told not to come in due to weather conditions. We did some laundry this morning, and I must say Wyatt is a big helper( notice him adding laundry), it is never to early to start! Another favorite of his is the chair because it spins!?!?!? We played a lot of ball today with Joni, they really are becoming best friends. Wyatt shares his food, and his balls with her! Just in the past couple of days Wyatt has started to pet Joni, (he would love to pet my cat, but that will probably never happen) and then today they had a playful time of keep away with the ball. See who ended up scoring it last!
Enjoy the rest of your week!

No Girls Allowed......

Today was a fun day for Wyatt and Dad! They started off with a play date this morning at the school with other dads and their kids that are part of the parents as teachers program through the school. They skated, and played balls among other things! Justin said they put wax paper on Wyatt's shoes, that was how the skating took place?!?!? I wish I would have sent my camera for that, it was a BOYS ONLY event. ( side note... I thought they were going to bowl, and I asked Justin how to spell bowled because it did not look right to me and he said BOLD, B-O-L-D I was so confused until I just explained I wanted to know how to spell Bowl as in the sport, not BOLD as in bold colors. Sometimes, our conversations really get confusing. Earlier, today I mentioned to Justin I wondered if our neighbors had flyer's in their box in the yard, and he said to me why would somebody be planting flowers today when it is 32 degrees outside, am I really that hard to understand?) Okay, so back on track with today. After, the morning play date we met at Brandi's because Wyatt and I were both due for haircuts.
Why this is so amusing to me, and Brandi both is because this was Wyatt's 5th or 6th haircut, and trust me all but the 1st one have been HORRIBLE. He cries, and squirms!!!!!!! Usually, I hold him and Brandi just cuts, and gets it over with. She has even threatened to give us a gift certificate to a children's haircut place because he is so loud at the shop, and other customers are usually very interested in what we are doing to this little guy! Well, today when Justin brought him, he sat there and made very little noise! He laughed when she used the clippers today, and he loves the blow dryer in his face. Justin said to us there is nothing to this! I am sure Justin is thinking, and they call this bad?
Enjoy the pictures... Soon I will be doing a post about then and now, and I will share some pictures of Wyatt then and now!

Post Placement visit

Today we had a post placement visit completed by our local agency, so that she could create the report and have it sent to our Adoption agency in February so they can translate it and have it sent to Russia by the 1st of March. We will have to do this once a year for 2 more years and then we are done.

The thing about this visit today is that Wyatt has a black eye. Do not ask me how he got a black eye because we have no idea!?!?! We put him to bed Friday night, did not notice anything and Saturday morning I went to get him out of the crib, and there it was. So of course last night this dawns on me, and I say to Justin " Oh my what do we do?" I even thought about patching that eye today to cover it, but decided against it. It all worked out because all that worry for nothing, she never even asked about his eye. I tried to take a picture, and post because that is his first boo boo, but it did not show up on the camera! It is about gone, and by this weekend probably no traces left. I know I should not be concerned about scrapes, and bruises that all children especially boys will get, but I am concerned. With all the hype in the news while we were in Russia, and since we have been home about US citizens adopting Russian children, and then neglecting them or abusing them, I guess I am a little paranoid!

I do not want anything on record, because I really am trying to talk my husband into having another baby. Of course at this point we are trying to decide how this will look. Will it be a local adoption, will it be another international, will it be a newborn, will I say I want a girl, will I say it does not matter? These are all the questions we are pondering. I have started praying about this again, and I know in God's time we will learn of the plan for us. I know some of you will think so soon, but the reality is nothing will happen quickly especially if we do local, newborn, little girl. That would be a 2+ year wait probably, and at that point Wyatt would be 4!

That is about it for the mid week update......

Thank you

I am updating the blog tonight to simply say "Thank you". Your words of encouragement, and responses to my last post really made an impact with me. It is times like this that I am reminded that if I speak it ( or write it in this case) that you all so lovingly lift my family up in prayer. It has been an amazing year, and as I watch Wyatt grow and change daily I know that prayers are being answered. I have had a lot of peace since sharing with you on Friday! The responses from other mothers who remind me I am not alone, and remind me that you are the Earthly Angels that God has placed in my life for this season really raised my spirits, and to my sweet Uncle Wayne who reminded me that I have family, and friends that are holding our hands during this journey. Sometimes, I guess it is good to be reminded of how much one is loved............

Busy week of Doctor's Appointments

It was a week of seeing our specialists, and our hope was that we would be released from one or both. I think these specialists will be with us for the next few years at least. I will be honest, and say I am overwhelmed, and a little sad by this today!

On Monday we saw Dr. Cholmers ( pediatric endocrinologist) and although she thought Wyatt was continuing in a good direction he still was not where he needed to be. He weighed in at exactly 21 lbs, I think they could see the disappointment in my face, I explained that I found the holiday 6, why could Wyatt not do better than a few ounces. Remember he was 20.8 lbs on November 12th. In fact we are having a surgical procedure next month( I will discuss this procedure in a future blog) but Dr. Chalmers has written a note for the sedation doctor, and explained that she wants Solu Cortef added prior to his surgery because although he has a normal AM cortisol level, she is unsure of his stress reserve of this. Dr. Chalmers is so nice, and patient and makes me feel like any question is a good question!

Today we traveled to Oklahoma City to see our pediatric neuro opthomologist, and was reminded of the reality with Wyatt and his vision. We have continued to patch daily with a success of about 95%, but our glasses have been a different story. It was obvious today because Wyatt did not want to leave them on for the exam. If you remember back we started out with some pretty bleak news concerning Wyatt's vision. I think because of this and because the OKC Doctor diagnosed us differently we were encouraged, and maybe let our guard down to much! In June when we saw Dr. Mike in OKC Wyatt's left eye was not tracking within range so that is when glasses were prescribed, the patching increased to 2 hours, and we were scheduled to see him in September. At the September appointment things looked so good and Wyatt's eye was tracking within normal range that he said keep doing what you are doing with the glasses ( which thinking back Emily did a great job of getting daily wear time in between June and August), and he decreased our patch to 1 hour a day. Now, fast forward 3 months to January and what we learned today is that his left eye has fallen back out of range. I was concerned that it might work like a growth chart and the range move with age, and sure enough today that was confirmed. So over the course of the next couple of years this might continue to happen! So today we were told back to 2 hours a day on patching, and we need to get at least 4 hours a day in with the glasses. I also asked very specifically about WHAT condition(s) we are dealing with? You would have thought I would have already asked this, and I have lots of different times, lots of different ways, but when I get to the car or home to research it, I had already forgotten specifics. So today I captured the words so I could understand what we are dealing with. Dr. Mike said Wyatt has 3 things going on with his vision. Optic Nerve is small, nothing we can do about this, happened while in womb. Other conditions are Amblyopia ( lazy eye), and Exotropia( eye crossing) and as a layperson when we look at Wyatt we think things look good, and they do compared to this time last year! But, the concern is if we do not get this corrected then we will have bigger problems as a result. Both are correctable conditions, but it will require wearing both the glasses and the patch. The patch corrects the Amblyopia, and the glasses correct the Exotropia! We have a 50/50 chance of outgrowing glasses at some point in childhood.

Whew....... Now that you have more medical information than you ever wanted to know about a child's eyes, believe me I have realized in recent days that my medical vocabulary has expanded more than I ever dreamed. Let me see if you can understand that each time I learn of a new condition, or diagnosis that we have I RESEARCH until I have made myself CRAZY! I have stopped doing this because I believe in our Doctors. I am a prepared mother, and I do not want to live with my head in the sand, but I have come to realize that one can be over prepared. I have shared this message several times in recent months with a couple of girlfriends about their lives( you know who you are), the message is if you believe in your Doctors, and have faith in the plan God has for your life than there is no need to worry. We need to leave the worry to the "Big Man"!

I know God has Wyatt's plan, and has since before he was born. This is all part of his master plan, and I want to continue to honor him, and believe that the plan will be revealed all in due time. My prayer for Wyatt is that his vision is healed, and that he will continue to adjust and do well with his sight. Vision is very complicated, and linked to our brain and receptors in so many different ways! Will you please add Wyatt to your prayer list, and pray specifically for Wyatt's vision to be healed, and that in the future it will not be necessary to patch( we are on our 9 month of patching), and if glasses were not needed that would be okay too. Could you also pray for his momma, and that I will continue to have peace with all the medical information that continues to be shared with me( why is it that at all of these big appointments I seem to be there alone?)

Lots of information being shared today, and I am on overload so I am off to watch some mindless TV!

January Already.....

I know many, many people have checked in daily to see if I had posted a new update and I am sorry for the delay in getting this information updated. We had a wonderful Christmas in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Santa found us at our rented condo! Wyatt had a great Christmas, and received lots of cool toys, pj's, toy organizer ( more a gift for mom) and the greatest gift of all was making memories with his family! To think back and realize that Christmas day was exactly one year since we met Wyatt, and held him in our arms! The time really has flown by...... Being a new parent I am learning all the time, and what I learned about this trip was 10 hours in a car with a young child is way to long in the car, he did great, watched lots of Baby Einstein, but still his patience was tested. That was 10 hours one way! We got home Sunday night late and he went to daycare 1/2 the week, and then we all stayed in the rest of the week. Literally, we stayed in. We came home Wednesday night ( New Year's Eve) about 7:30 pm, and our cars never left again until today when we finally decided we needed to get out. So we got out and tackled several errands that needed to be run! Also, I did not make it an official New Year's resolution, but knew I wanted to make a difference in our house and get organized. We spent a full day on my home office and got it organized. It looks the best it has in years!!!! Now if I can get the guest bedroom done next I will feel like we are making great progress.

Next week Wyatt has several doctors appointments, one with the endocrinologist and one with our vision doctor in OKC. I will let you know how all those appointments go, we are hoping that maybe we can discontinue the patching.

I will post some pictures soon, but for now this update will have to do!

Happy 2009.....
