A day with the Meacham's........

We had a great day at the Vlad Inn!

Irina came today and we filled out all the necessary paperwork for departure. Even though we still have 11 days nothing like getting ready now, plus some of the items are being couried to Moscow next week. We will be getting Wyatt's passport from Moscow!

We had a play date with several other families today. Sam and Katie are from Ohio, and their daughter is 32 months old, Anastiya. She is with our agency, and we have been together since the beginning of this 2nd trip. Josh and Leslie are from Alabama ( she talks so Southern, I asked Justin do I talk like her, he said exactly) they have a 2 1/2 yr old boy Noah, they went to court yesterday so last night was their first night. Also, Melissa her husband is Sam, and he has already gone back to the states because of work. ( Melissa says he has been sick since he got home, and has lost close to 10 lbs) They have Natalie, she is 3 yrs old, and Gavin is 20 months (Gavin is still at the baby home, she will get him on Tuesday) But, it was a fun play date at the White Rabbit! Not exactly sure how the room got it's name, but it is located within the hotel and has games for both children and adults. Our families were the only ones in there, and we decided today we will meet everyday at 4:00 to play for an hour or so to break up the day before dinner.

About dinner, I had Breck post some new pictures of Wyatt. I have really been challenged by dinner, lunch, and breakfast for that matter. Trying to keep Wyatt clean is challenging because between every bite he wants to suck his fingers. I just made the decision it is more important that he eat really good, and not be to concerned about how he looks. For now we will just decline any dinner invites to others' homes!!!!!!!!! I had hoped he would take formula because of the good nutrition value, as of yet he has no interest. In fact he will barely take anything to drink, no water, milk, formula, or juice. I have been putting some formula, and/or milk in his mashed potatoes, and other vegetables. Trying to disguise it if you will! Any suggestions, about this matter would be great. Amy, if you are reading this could you give some advice, PLEASE..... All of my calculations, and other good ideas were left back in America because Wyatt is not buying in to this so far.

One of the other new pictures is of Wyatt in his Texas Tech Red Raider outfit, enough said...

Have a great weekend everyone!!! We love you guys, and are missing you.

He is not the only baby that is messy when he eats. In fact, Bryce is 7 and still makes a mess when he eats. That's why we have tile and wood floors in the eating areas. It must be a boy thing. It will be okay for Wyatt to make a mess at the Blue's. We can clean it up. Try putting milk in a straw and stick it in his mouth and see if he will drink it that way. I'm sure it won't be long and he will be drinking.

Alex never took to the formula very well, either. My pediatrician said that at 11 months that I could put him on whole milk. And we did and never put it in a bottle. We put it in a sippy cup. He did well with that! Was the baby orphanage still giving him a bottle or just a cup? Maybe it is what he is used to?? Our house is kid friendly so don't worry about him making a mess here! We have everything you should need and it all cleans up!!!! Sounds like you guys are doing much better. We love and miss you guys too!

Sounds wonderful at the Vlad Inn with the White Rabbit room. It's fun to meet the other families and there is something bonding with them since you all are in the same boat. That will definitely help break up your day having a play date scheduled. As far as the drinking goes maybe offer him the drink stuff before any food. With Jared he wanted to drink so I offered him that after his food. That was how I got him to eat his food so when Wyatt is hungry if you give him the drink first maybe he'll take it. We had trouble with Griffin eating while we were in Russia, it seemed like everything I tried didn't really work. I guess he ate some but not much. You know you guys are welcome at the Rykers for dinner anytime we've got nothing to destroy, it's already been destroyed!:) Love to you 3,

Hi guys! We are so happy for all three of you! Can't wait to meet Wyatt in person! Our Cate wasn't a big eater/drinker either when she was little. But she always managed to get what her little body needed! Keep trying and he will get the hang of it. You guys are going to be great together!!!

Lisa, since I work at WIC I hear a lot of stories and see a lot of situations. We get many little ones in foster care, and it's not uncommon for them to have a decrease in their eating and/or drinking when their little worlds change. Wyatt may be going through an adjusting period, and the only thing that you are noticing is his lack of fluid intake. The main thing to remember is not to get too stressed about it. Kids are very adaptable, and they won't let themselves starve or dehydrate. Also remember at this point he only needs about (4) 1/2 cups of whold milk/day (16oz/day) and extra water if he'll take it. It sounds like he is eating well so one less thing to worry about. Like previously said, think about how he was used to taking it. If you are wanting to switch to milk, try warming it a little so it's similar in temp to the formula. It's also not uncommon for anyone to not like something when they first try it. It takes being given it 20 times, and he disliking it 20 times before you can actually count it as something he doesn't like, and won't take!

Hope that helps! Also, I didn't see the new pics in his Texas Tech outfit posted. Maybe God is helping to shield my eyes, but I do enjoy seeing the adorable pics of Wyatt!!!

When you get up from the Dunbar table, you can usually tell who sat where. So, a little messy eating doesn't hurt and there will be allot more messes. That is all part of the big, wonderful deal. I love hearing about your times together, getting to know each other.

Looking forward to you guys being back in Tulsa!

Love,
Jane

Lord have you not seen Ragon eat? We have to put her in the chair in a diaper only. It is a good day when David and I are not covered in food as well!!! So the messy eating thing....welcome to the club sister!!!
Second - I agree with everyone, he is just adjusting, some kids go through a period of adjusting and they pick one thing. Some days Ragon sucks down milk like I don't feed her, other days, she will hardly touch it. Don't stress about it. If you are really concerned, you have an accessible pediatrition. Go to www.brianraleymd.com, on there the website has advice for age (so you know what HE reccomends Wyatt have by age). Also you can e-mail him through the website and ask him a question. Just a thought! So excite for you all....sounds like you all are already pros!

All your friends have given you good advice.

You just don't worry about messes while eating; HE'S A BABY that is to be expected.

Don't you guys worry about his eating & drinking; he'll be fine. Just roll with the flow; it's what we all went through with our kids. Sipper cup & straw were good ideas. If he sees you taking a drink< you set whatever within reach & see if he goes for it.

Hope the next 11 days goes fast; don't know if I can take all this excitement this long.

It sounds like it was a great family day. I do love hearing about everything going on with the Meachams.

I have no words of wisdom about getting kids to eat and drink. NO experience here. All I know is he has fabulous parents so I am not worried about him. =)

Thanks for the new pictures. Have another great day~ I look forward to tomorrows blog.

Love it! Ha! Don't worry about the mess, at least he is eatting. Hailey did the same thing about drinking, it is still hard to get her to drink muuch. I guess some kids are just like that. It will all be ok. I think he will get the proper nutrition once he is home and settled in with your pediatrician. The doc should have recommendations. Also, I can only say that be prepared for teething... this is probably happening for the little guy and could be why he wants to suck his fingers. I think yall are doing just fine. I am glad that yall have made friends there too to play with. That is wonderful. Take care.

Alex said he likes the closer up of little man in his high chair. He said "Baby Wyatt has sketti on him!!!" I thought that was too cute and had to share with you!

Love you 3!

The finger sucking could mean Wyatt is cutting teeth.
Loved seeing the pictures. Really liked the close up of Wyatt in the high chair.

The quilts pretty.

I'm so thrilled for you and Justin!! Have you tried making up the formula and mixing it in with cereal (oatmeal, rice, etc.) and adding in some baby fruit? This could be for breakfast, as well as a dessert for lunch and dinner? Just a suggestion!! Also, back to being messy...that's why they sell those plastic mats to go under highchairs! LOL I can't wait to kiss that messy, sweet, little face! Oh, one more thing...I've never seen Texas Tech look so good! ::wink::

I was so excited to bring up your blog at Brandon's but the pictures didn't show up. Home now and the pictures are soooo cute. Wyatt looks like any other child/boy at meal time, what's your concern? You guys have dogs at home to help with the food on the floor! We have to sweep or mop it up here! So glad to see another happy baby.

Love to you all,
Auntie Laurie and Uncle Craig

PS We're having steak for dinner tonight in honor of your new family!
